DUPA organized several events in August and September: we had a successful first Duke Diversity Postdoc Alliance Social on August 16, the monthly Pubnight at Fullsteam on the 26th, and the Duke Football Tailgate on Sept 3rd! Below are some pictures.
This year’s Spring Fling benefited again from the lovely NC weather! Our family friendly spring picnic had the usual fajita bar, beer from local breweries and four flavors of delicious, local Maple View Farm ice cream. Organized by the Office of Postdoctoral Services and DUPA.
Duke Postdocs enjoyed tailgating with burgers and hot dogs, and then challenged the cold to watch Duke play against Clemson! This microparty was partially sponsored by DUPA and organized by Stefan!
On Thursday, August 2nd, over 60 postdocs got together to attend the third annual DUPA night at the Durham Bulls. We enjoyed the glorious weather and we treated to a quick, crisp ballgame that the Bulls … lost. But we won as we all enjoyed $1 hot dogs, popcorn and fries and the company of their fellow postdocs. We even got to be famous on the big screen!
Duke postdocs bravely challenged the 105F heat for a trip to the Duke Lemur Center. Following a brief video, our knowledgeable tour guide then showed us many different lemur species the center accommodates and detailed the research the center does. Visiting the nocturnal lemurs may have been the highlight, both for the animals and the respite from the heat. Due to the popularity of the event, we have plans to visit the Lemur Center again. If you are interested in joining us, please email DUPA social chair Jeff Blackinton. The trip was organized by Jeff and sponsored by DUPA.

Duke is proud of its postdocs! Join us for the sixth annual Postdoctoberfest, an appreciation event for Duke postdocs, their families, and the faculty and staff who support them. We will serve free hotdogs and veggie dogs with all the sides, beer from Durham favorite FullSteam Brewery, and delicious, local Maple View Farms ice cream. Live music will be provided by rising star Brett Harris, who recently performed with Michael Stipe of REM. For the kids, the popular Bouncy Tiger will be back on the lawn!
