Duke Postdocs often desire to volunteer to contribute to the local community. There are many opportunities to do so, many of which can be found through the Duke University Community Service Center.

  • Teaching related volunteering can be done at the Emily K Center, that always welcomes tutors for their K-12 program.
  • Science related volunteering can be done by serving as a judge in competitions organized for graduate, undergraduate and advanced high school students by Sigma Xi. Often local high schools, partly through the Durham Scientifica Program, are looking for scientists to help create opportunities to expose students to science, for example by giving 11-12th grades summer research opportunities.
  • Other opportunities are regularly posted on the postdoc email list
