Mission statement: The International Committee aims to represent and advocate for international postdocs and help navigate their life and work at Duke. 

Current members: Pasha Zamani (Chair, az180(at)duke(dot)edu), Thomas Pomberger, Amar Kavuri, and Ida Xie 

CURRENT GOALS

  • Providing biannual visa seminars (Working (H-1B)/Visiting scholar (J-1) visa and Green card seminars)

  • Strengthening the postdoc international buddy program

  • Conduct needs survey to understand the needs of the international postdoc community

  • Adding more programs/services based on the needs of the international postdoc community 

  • Creating a complete list of international postdocs at Duke

  • Connecting every international postdoc at Duke via an email listserv

  • Organizing two events per year to celebrate different/international cultures.

Duke International Student Center

A large percentage of Duke postdocs are from abroad. Although listed under student services, Duke’s International Student Center serves the entire international population at Duke, including postdocs. They provide an abundance of social activities, development programs, and an active and helpful listserv.

Postdoc-to-Postdoc (P2P) Buddy Program

You’ve got the job, now what? Want help with getting settled, how to get around or where to get the best food in town? Whether you are coming from out of town or out of the country, we have postdocs here to help you make your transition. Sign up here  and you will be matched to a current Duke postdoc who can relate to your situation.

Duke Visa Services

Duke visa services provide information and assistance to other Duke offices in regards to international student and work visas.  Incoming researchers and postdocs can find plenty of information here. They also run several visa services workshops.
